My recap is going to be a little different then seasons past. Due to my Nana passing the week before, I was not as prepared as I normally am but I was okay with that. I made it to what I could but felt confused after NYFW was all over. This is why…
Fashion has never been about following the rules but I felt like everyone was just trying to “stand out.” It all just seemed unnatural. Unless you do a big production like Tommy Hilfiger or Yeezy you almost go unnoticed in the “mass media.” Locations have also changed due to Mercedes Benz cutting sponsorship (this is the second season without them). A lot of designers didn’t even participate in NYFW because of money and/or they did presentations before. Other designers that did participate did the new approach “see now buy now” where you could go online or in-store and buy the pieces that were seen on the runway immediately following the show. This means these collections were for now or spring. The rest of the designers stuck to what February shows once consisted of and that is Fall/ Winter 2017. We did see a lot of metallics, florals, and furs for the upcoming fall/ winter. A lot of other trends were loud and very out there. They want
Don’t get me wrong, I am SO grateful that I get to experience all of this as my second season as a blogger and fourth season being there. My first two seasons I worked behind the scenes with a PR company. So I have seen all the craziness that goes on in front and behind the runway. It is truly fascinating how much work goes into an average 12-15 minute runway show.
On a brighter note, I do believe the fashion industry is growing and changing so much. Why? Because the world is changing. People do not realize that fashion is fully effected by the world around us. That is why you see the color yellow so much now. Yellow represents positivity, freshness, and energy. The runways were filled with both women and men from all walks of life and all backgrounds. Anna Wintour feels “very optimistic” about fashion for the future and that “being positive is the best revenge.”
