Three years ago I met four awesome girls studying abroad in Italy (FUA, woot woot!). It was on the first night we all randomly sat down at dinner and instantly bonded over pounds of pasta and bottles of wine. By the end of our program we weren’t just friends we became family (cheesy but true). Since we all live all over the country, we made a pact that every year we will visit each other. This year we picked a ski trip to Breckenridge, Colorado. I met Sarah (@sarahmcconnico) abroad, we now live together in NYC and it just happened to be her birthday over this trip.. so it was perfect! I have never been out west before and the mountains are as unbelievable as people say.
We stayed in Denver the first night (courtesy of @itskirra who lives there) and explored around Boulder the following day (courtesy of my college friend Haley @haleykohl). Illegal Pete’s is supposedly a must try out there which gets compared to Chipotle. I must say it is better! Ours always had a bar in it so you could have a margarita with your meal. In Boulder, we shopped on Pearl Street and went to the brewery West Flanders Brewing Co for a flight and some bites. We then thought it would be a great idea to “hike” one of the nearby mountains on the Chautauqua Trail. Clearly we did not dress for the occasion…
Upon arriving in Breckenridge we picked up our rentals at Christy Sports. We got the premium ski package which included skiis, boots, polls, and a helmet. Skiing in Breckenridge was THE best ski experience I’ve ever had. The mountains were covered in white fluffy “powdery” snow, perfect for Allison’s (@allisonchenny) first time skiing. Click here to watch the video she made! It was so nice to ski on since I am used to the ice slopes we have here! The slopes were not overcrowded and very easy to navigate as well. Definitely hit up Sevens for lunch which is at the bottom on Peak 7 in the Grand lodge. Make sure you go to the second floor aka where the bar is (adults only!)
We also went tubing one morning in Frisco at Frisco Adventure Park. The view was absolutely stunning and we had so much fun! Later in the day we went snow shoeing back in Breckenridge at Nordic Center. We decided to do the self guided tour… thank god we did because the poor guy would’ve left our obnoxious selves behind… It is not as easy as you think! But we saw a wild moose and its baby- we felt like Steve Irwin videoing these big beasts! After we ate and drank at the cute lodge there that had a beautiful stone fireplace.
For those who are trying to party at night we hit up Nappy Tanders, Brooklyn Tavern, and Cecelia’s. All such fun local places. Everyone is super casual and so nice (complete opposite vibe than NYC!) All of these are located on Main Street in Breckenridge so they are all walk-able!
Food is always on my mind. We had the best pizza I have ever had (minus Italy) at Northside Pizza on Main Street. We each got our own pizza and did not regret it. We also ate Giampietro which was very authentic Italian food. The front is a pizzeria and the back is a modern Italian restaurant.
There are such cute shops and branded stores in case you were to forget something! We also got a massage at Feel Good Massage- a cute and cheap spot!
Colorado was absolutely amazing and I would love to go back there once a year! I would like to go back in the fall and hike- who’s with me?!
Many XO’s,
Alyssa
